Old Town Hall Museum and Library

Historic museum c. 1873 located in Southbury's First Town Hall and adjacent Library c. 1904 has periodic exhibits of local artifacts, historical and genealogical materials, books and manuscripts of the areas country life. Paugussett State Forest

Newtown. Jct. Rte. 6 and 25 (at flagpole) take Rte.6/25 for 0.2 mi., turn right on Hanover Rd. (1.1 mi), turn left on the Boulevard (0.5 mi.), turn right on Echo Valley Rd. (1.3 mi), bear left on Sanford Rd., entrance on right. Fishing, hunting, mountain biking. For boat launch ramp: at jct. of Boulevard and Hanover Rd., turn left on Boulevard follow for 2.3 mi to ramp that provides access to Lake Lillinonah, a dammed section of the Housatonic River. Hiking on blue blazed trails. The Lillinonah Trail is closed Dec. – March due to bald eagle nesting.

One of the oldest Army Horse Cavalry Units in the U.S. This all-volunteer State Militia Unit has a herd of 36 horses that performs in special events and parades. Cavalry military training of horse and rider takes place throughout the year. The public is welcome to visit the horses during regular drill hours April - Oct. Thurs. 7-10 pm and Nov. - March on Sun. 10 am - 2 pm. Annual Open House in September. If you are planning to observe a mounted drill, please call or email thehorseguard@gmail.com. All dates are subject to change, and some drills do not include mounted activities.

Tarrywile Mansion,I-84 exit 3. This elegant Victorian estate is perfect for a bridal ceremony, receptions, bridal showers or even rehearsal dinners. Rental includes use of Mansion, dramatic wrap around porch and gardens. The rental rate for the Tarrywile Mansion is $1,500 for Danbury residents and $2,000 for out of town residents for a nine-hour period. A refundable $500 security deposit is also required.
