Stillwater Pond State Park

Torrington. From jct. of Rte. 4 and 272 take Rte. 272 north for 1.4 mi. Serene pond with boat ramp offers good fishing. The mountain to the west of the pond was where famous abolitionist John Brown was born. In 1800 Brown captured the Federal armory at Harper's Ferry in hopes of arming southern slaves. He was tried, convicted and hung becoming a symbol of freedom to Northern abolitionists.

T. A. Hungerford Library Museum

Established in 1906 as the Town of Harwinton’s library. Today it houses an extensive collection of local and unusual artifacts from the colonial period to the present. Special displays to be announced. May-Oct. 1-3 pm every other Sat. Group and off-hour tours by appt. call (860) 485-0517.

The indoor facility includes computer analysis, a short game area, indoor bunker, and full swing areas.

Torrington Historical Society

(860) 482-8260. The Society offers three museum exhibits: The Hotchkiss-Fyler House Museum, No Place Like Home: The History of Torrington, and Pursuit of Precision, a re-creation of a 1930's machine shop. Open Wed. thru Sat. noon -4 pm.

Warner Theatre

Beautifully restored 1931 art deco theatre that offers an exciting mix of national performances, family entertainment and Broadway style musicals. In addition to the 1,772-seat main stage auditorium, the complex features the state-of-the-art Carole & Ray Neag Performing Arts Center which houses a 300-seat Studio Theatre, a 200-seat restaurant and an on-site school for the arts.
