Wings of Freedom Tour Brings Vintage Airplanes to Oxford

The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

Vintage Doll Lecture and Appraisal Event

On Saturday January 12th at 1:00pm Wally and Dee Domroe, the owners of the Doll Room in Bridgewater, will present a lecture on vintage dolls and doll collecting in the Wykeham Room of the Gunn Memorial Library. Wally and Dee Domroe are longtime doll collectors and repair dolls at their business on Route 133. After the lecture refreshments will be served at the Gunn Museum adjacent to the Library. From 1:30pm-2:30pm, at the Museum, Wally and Dee will be giving verbal appraisals of vintage dolls, with a suggested donation of $5 per doll. The Domroes are donating their appraisal fees to the Gunn Memorial Library and Museum. This is an opportunity for visitors to have a final viewing of the Gunn Museums holiday exhibit, Dolls Paradise, which is ending on January 13th. The treasured doll collections of Miss Mary Browne, Mary Logan Bronson, Dorothy Averill, past curator Ester Peck and other area collectors are showcased throughout the museum this holiday season. Under the creative guidance of guest curator Chris Zaima, this holiday exhibit is a delightful vision with dolls from yesteryear displayed in a beautiful, enchanting setting. On Saturday, January 17, 2008 from 1PM until 4PM the CT Dept of Environmental Protection, Fisheries Division will sponsor a free ice fishing workshop at White Memorial. Families and individuals age nine and up are welcome to attend this unique event which is part of the CT Aquatic Resources Education program. The class is taught by state certified volunteer instructors. All fishing tackle and course materials are provided absolutely free. Students will receive official diplomas upon successful completion of the course. Pre register for the workshop required.
