The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

All Jazz First Thursday at Mattatuck Museum Featuring Mario Pavone--Waterbury

Bassist and composer Mario Pavone will perform at the Mattatuck Museum's First Thursday on January 5, 2012 from 5:30 - 7:30pm. All are invited to come and enjoy a thrilling evening of jazz with this music legend and Waterbury, CT native who will be accompanied by alto saxophonist Kris Allen, Russ Johnson on trumpet, Craig Hartley on piano, trombonist Peter McEachern and George Schuller on drums and percussion. Unlike most artists whose careers span five decades, his most recent recordings are his most widely acclaimed, appearing on best-of-the-year lists from the Village Voice and the New York Times, among others. He currently serves as an educator, administrator and board member for the Litchfield Jazz Festival and Litchfield Summer Jazz Camp in Litchfield, Connecticut. Mario Pavone has been awarded the prestigious 2009 Chamber Music America / New Jazz Works / Commissioning and Ensemble Grant. He was one of 12 recipients chosen from a pool of 161 applications. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious New Work Commission from the Chamber Music America funded by the Doris Duke Foundation.

Ring in the New Year with an old-fashioned Victorian Tea Party at the Gunn Memorial Museum on Sunday January 8, 2012 from 1-3pm. The snow date is Sunday January 15. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the spectacular holiday exhibit, The Magical Christmas Horse, and socialize with friends in a festive setting. Guests are asked to bring their favorite tea cup, we'll provide the rest. This holiday season at the Gunn Museum features whimsical displays of spectacular vintage toy horses of all shapes and sizes, Christmas trees and Wendell Minor's paintings from the book, The Magical Christmas Horse, by Mary Higgins Clark. The setting of The Magical Christmas Horse is based on the historic 1746 Averill Farm in Washington, Connecticut and the Gunn Museum's toy horse is the inspiration behind this enchanting holiday story.
