The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

When Fr. Henri Nouwen died suddenly in 1996, he was one of the most well-known religious figures in the United States. He taught at Notre Dame, Yale and Harvard, and had written almost 40 books on spirituality. Fr. Nouwen spoke of our belovedness in God. How can we discover the key to this deep spiritual identity and how can we manifest this new Self in our relationships, our work and in the natural world? The retreat will focus on the themes of belovedness, suffering, empowerment and liberation in Nouwen’s writings.

Dr. Jonas also will share personal stories of his relationship with Nouwen.

Oxford Historical Society Hosts Vintage Vehicle Show

The Oxford Historical Society will host its first Vintage Vehicle Show on Sunday, June 1, from 1 - 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead Museum, 60 Towner Lane in Oxford. In case of rain, the event will be held on Sunday, June 15, at the same times.  Admission is free and refreshments will be served.  The public is asked to park on the side of the road except for those persons requiring handicapped parking. A variety of old-time farm machines, cars and trucks are expected at this event, including the 1958 John Deere tractor restored by Don Rich and shown here.   Other vehicles promised to the show include a 1952 8N Ford farm tractor, a 1911 and a 1915 Model T Ford, a 1949 Crosley automobile, a 1947 John Deere Model M tractor, a 1963 Studebaker mail truck and a 1952 Massey-Harris tractor.  Additional cars and tractors are expected. The museum will be open for tours during this event.  Special displays on view include children’s books from 1900 – 1960 with photos of the youngsters who enjoyed them and a c1790 loom from the Jensen family farm in Quaker Farms.

The annual Northfield Memorial Parade (Decoration Day) will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 11AM starting at the Northfield Green.  The Village Improvement Society is hosting the parade and will have refreshments after the parade at the pavilion.  Children are invited to march along with the library.  Wear red, white and blue and meet at the Green at 10:45AM.
