Wings of Freedom Tour Brings Vintage Airplanes to Oxford

The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

The museum will host our 8th Annual Touch-a-Truck Festival on Friday, August 2nd from 5-8pm.  Join us for this fun-filled family event where children can enjoy the evening exploring trucks of all shapes and size.  The museum parking lot will showcase a variety of vehicles to climb aboard, including but not limited to:  fire trucks, construction trucks, tractors, tow trucks, and many more!  In addition, Connecticut Light & Power and F&F Concrete Corporation will be on site with vehicles.  Children can also enjoy exploring our outdoor Monster Truck Bounce House and creating a tire track painting.  Construction helmets will be available for purchase at $2, as well as pizza, snacks, and ice cream treats in our 1940's Old Fashioned Soda Fountain.  Admission is $7.00 per person, children under one and museum members are free.

Barkhamsted Historical Society - Invasive Species Removal Day

A walk and talk on the grounds of Squire's Tavern led by FRCC Botanist, Betsy Corrigan, highlighting invasive plants. Betsy will explain which plants were native to the area, which were brought in by the settlers then naturalized and became invasive. The walk/talk will be about 1 hour in length followed by a 2- hour workday to remove the invasive plants around the Tavern.
