Audubon Sharon will be offering Summer Nature Programs for kids entering kindergarten to sixth grade at the Sharon Audubon Center on Route 4 in Sharon, CT. The week long day-camps running June 22 through August 21 are an energetic and enjoyable opportunity for kids to begin their journey through nature. Children as young as three years old can participate in a “Mommy & Me” type camp with a parent or guardian during the Early Childhood Discovery Week. Each themed week of camp is packed with new and exciting experiences that are equal parts educational and just pure fun. Sharon Historical Society Children's Summer Program: Discovery Days

The Sharon Historical Society is excited to announce our new summer program for children called Discovery Days to be held on 4 Thursdays in July and August. Every Discovery Day starts with an investigation of objects in the Museum. Inspired by what we find there, we’ll delve deeper with a creative response. Each day will combine creative time with active time and will include games, crafts and a snack. 4 different classes will be offered during July and August and will be taught by museum professionals and assisted by student interns and guest speakers. The intended age group is children entering Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Reservations required for each session. Space is limited. The cost per session is $15 for members/ $20 for non-members or reserve all 4 sessions for just $50 for members/ $70 non-members. Dates are July 9th (Portraits), July 23rd (Colonial Times), August 6th (Iron Heritage) and August 20th (Town Green).  All sessions will run from 10:00AM-12:00PM. Call to register.

On July 10, The Sherman Playhouse will open Joseph Kesselring's classic theatrical chestnut, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE.
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE is the quintessential farcical black comedy. It focuses on the Brewster family, currently residing in 1940s Brooklyn. The family is comprised of two charming spinster aunts who populate their cellar with the remains of socially and religiously "acceptable" roomers; their brother who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt; and another brother, Mortimer, a drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry.

The Sharon Historical Society & Museum announces the opening on July 25, 2015 of its upcoming art show at the Gallery @the SHS titled "Putting It All Together". The show consists of quilted, collaged and assembled work in mixed media and will feature an eclectic grouping of pieces by local artists Ingrid Freidenbergs, Stephen Garmey, Ghost of a Dream, Gail Jacobson, Paul Neuman, Kate Stiassni and John Walker. Viewers will have an opportunity to appreciate, enjoy and be inspired by the full meaning of the expression "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Illustrating fascinating overlaps among art forms and drawing connections between past and present, several antique or vintage quilts from the Sharon Historical Society & Museum's permanent collection will be on display at the SHS as companion pieces to the show. The exhibit runs from July 25 through September 10. An opening reception to which the public is invited free of charge will be held on Saturday, July 25 from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren't upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents. Heritage Ride 2015 Hosted by Upper Housatonic Valley Naional Heritage Area--Norwalk/Cornwall

The Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area (Housatonic Heritage) in collaboration with the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership has announced 'Heritage Ride 2015', a coordinated end-to-end ride of the Western New England Greenway from July 26 to August 1, 2015. Beginning in Norwalk, CT, the group of cyclists will ride the most compatible cycling roadways throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont, terminating in Burlington, VT. Several informational stops will be made along the way, providing an opportunity for interested citizens to learn about the bikeway. Two receptions / informational gatherings are planned along the route. The first is scheduled on Sunday, July 26. The event will begin at 5:30 PM at the Cornwall Public Library, 30 Pine St. in Cornwall, CT. A second reception will be coordinated by the Berkshire Bikepath Council on Monday, July 27. The event will begin at 10:00 AM at the Ashuwillticook Trailhead adjacent to the Berkshire Mall in Pittsfield, MA. The public and cycling enthusiasts are encouraged to attend and learn about the region-wide cycling initiatives.
