Roxbury Land Trust--Good Hill Farm Preserve Open For Hike Labor Day Weekend

09/01/2012 to 09/03/2012

Route 317, Roxbury, CT 06783. Phone: 860-350-4148.

In its ongoing effort to encourage people to get outdoors and enjoy its nature preserves, the Roxbury Land Trust is urging the public to hike from its Good Hill Farm Preserve trail to the Miller Preserve over Labor Day weekend. "The Good Hill Farm Preserve is home to one of our newest trails and offers a meandering, up-and-down hike, starting at an old orchard, and continuing through the hillside woodlands and along an old wood road to the Miller Preserve," noted Susan Payne, executive director of the Roxbury Land Trust.  "We encourage families and friends to explore what Mother Nature offers here. It's a great way to spend a few hours over the long holiday weekend." With trailhead parking at the Good Hill Farm Preserve sign just east of the farmhouse and barns off Route 317, the trail connects across the eastern ridge of Roxbury to the Miller Preserve on Tophet Road.  The long and rather rigorous trail, which is marked with blue blazes, exits on Hoop Pole Road at the Miller Preserve onto Tophet Rd. Hikers may then hike back along Tophet Rd to Good Hill Road to parking. Boots are highly recommended. The 467-acre Good Hill Farm was purchased from the Lawrence Pond Family in 2002 with a grant from Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Open Space Acquisition, a grant from the Town of Woodbury, and the generous support of many Roxbury and Woodbury residents. The 55-acre Miller Family Preserve was donated by the Miller Family in 2005  and dedicated to the memory of Arthur Miller and Inge Morath Miller.  The development of this trail was made possible by volunteers.
