The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

After cleaning out old merchandise and restocking the shelves with “new” used books, Gunn Memorial Library’s Book Basement has scheduled a September reopening date.  For the weekend of the Thurs., Sept. 4th opening, the books shop will be open through Sunday.  It will resume regular hours thereafter:  Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 to 2. Healing Power of Therapeutic Touch  Thursday, September 4, 6:30pm in the Wykeham Room.  We welcome Marcia Engle of New Milford Hospital for an informative presentation and demonstration on the many benefits of Therapeutic Touch. A holistic, evidence-based therapy, the Therapeutic Touch technique is used by health professionals to speed healing, reduce pain, relieve stress and anxiety, and improve sleep. To begin the evening's program Susan Twombly, Community Outreach and Integrative Medicine Coordinator at New Milford Hospital, will give a brief visual presentation introducing and explaining EBSCO's Consumer Health Complete. CHC, accessible from home with a Gunn Memorial Library card as well as in the library, is the single most comprehensive online resource for consumer-oriented health content.

Author and independent scholar Katherine Dimancescu will speak at the Minor Memorial Library on Thursday, September 4, 20104 at 1PM.  Her talk will feature stories about often overlooked and forgotten chapters in both Connecticut and New England's early colonial history, uncovered during research into the family history of her maternal ancestors.  Copies of Dimancescu's book, The Forgotten Chapters: My Journey into the Past will be available for sale and signing after her presentation at the library.
