The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

Tarrywile Mansion and Park is a 654-acre park has fields, ponds and 21 miles of trails. The terrain can be ruggged and steep but other parts of the trails are filled with berry bushes and sounds of nature. The schedule of hikes start at 9 a.m. Join Park volunteers Rita, Dawn, Jane, George, Bruce, Steve and Lou as they guide you through the trails at Tarrywile. All hikes are free and will only be canceled in the event of heavy rain. Hikes start at 9 a.m. at the Red Barn Environmental Center with participants parking in the lower Mansion parking lot. Hike participants are encouraged to wear rugged sturdy shoes, to bring water, bug spray and a light snack if desired. Hikes generally run from 2 to 3 hours in duration.

Families and children ages 2 to 99 are invited to participate in the Litchfield Historical Society's annual Valentine Workshops on Tuesday and Thursday, February 5th and 7th. Workshop participants will be inspired by examples of Victorian-era Valentines from the collection of the Society's Ingraham Memorial Library and can then apply their own creative flair to craft tokens of love for friends and family. Children from 2 to 5 years old are invited on both days to participate in a morning workshop from 10 to 11am; and the entire family can participate in post-school day Valentine activities from 3:30-4:30 pm. An adult's only workshop will be held during lunch hour on the 5th of February from noon-1:00pm. Participants are invited to create their own valentines using ideas from some of the History Museums vast collection of cards. Examples of handwritten poems, humorous missives and intricate patterns will be available for inspiration, or choose from a variety of quilling and scherenschnitte patterns to create your own unique Valentine.
