Reservation lines will open December 19 for the 2015 Winter Season of the Bald Eagle Observation Area at the Shepaug Hydroelectric Dam in Southbury, Conn. Observation times this season will be Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. beginning Saturday, December 19, 2015, and running through Wednesday, March 9, 2016.  Please be aware, however, that the observation area is closed both Christmas Day and New Year's Day. All are welcome and admission is free of charge, but advance reservations are required. Specialists will be on site with high-powered telescopes to help visitors see the eagles in action and to answer questions about America's national symbol.  Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly and to bring binoculars if possible, given the limited number of onsite telescopes. Flanders Nature Center Workshop: Maple Sugaring Info Session and Tapping Day--Woodbury

Maple sugaring time, a New England tradition, will be starting soon! Each year Flanders taps and collects sap from dozens of trees both here at the nature center and around Woodbury and invite anyone with an interest in maple sugaring with us this year to attend a volunteer information meeting on Tuesday evening January 26th at 7 PM at The Studio located at the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Road in Woodbury. There will be an overview of the 2016 season and details on the many interesting volunteer opportunities. Refreshments will be served. Tree tapping day, weather permitting, is scheduled for Saturday, February 6. No experience is needed and all ages and families are welcome to come to help out. For the purposes of coordination we are asking that this year those planning on coming that day also preregister so that we know that you plan on being a part of tapping the trees. Tree tapper volunteers will meet at the Flanders Sugar House at 9:30 AM. It is located at 5 Church Hill Road in Woodbury. These events are free and open to the public.
