The Wings of Freedom Tour will be at the Oxford Airport from September 5 to September 7, 2014 and arrive at 2 p.m. on Sept. 5th and depart on Sunday at 5 p.m.  The Tour brings historic aviation to your community.  Tour through the authentically restored aircraft or take a flight aboard for the ultimate immersion in history.  The B-17, B-24 and P-51 are on the 25th season of the Wings of Freedom Tour. Visitors are invited to explore the aircraft inside and out; $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 12.  WWII veterans can tour through the aircraft a no cost.  Call for further information.

3:30–5:00 pm, the Litchfield Historical Society will hold a program on the Tapping Reeve House lawn for children 6 and up that will explore the life of Aaron Burr and learn about his historic duel with Alexander Hamilton. Aaron Burr became infamous after his duel with Alexander Hamilton, but many years before that he had ties with Litchfield.  Burr was Tapping Reeve's first law student, as well as the brother of Reeve's first wife, Sally Burr Reeve. Join us at the Historical Society as we read a children's book on the event, Duel! Burr and Hamilton's Deadly War of Words, and decide for yourself if you like him or not. Participants will engage in an activity or take home a craft related to the story.

Lake Compounce Hosts Second Annual Dinner Benefit --American Cancer Society

On Friday May 4th, 2012 the full time staff at Lake Compounce will host the second annual charity dinner to benefit the American
Cancer Society, in memory of their co-worker and close friend Bruce Gisiger who passedaway last year, after a courageous battle with thyroid cancer. "This dinner is a way to honor Bruce, and a tradition we intend to continue," said Jerry Brick, General Manager of Lake Compounce.  "We feel it's important to raise money forthe American Cancer Society in the hopes of helping them to find a cure for this disease which tragically affects so many lives." The dinner will held on Friday, May 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the Starlight Theatre at Lake Compounce. Tickets are $20 per person which includes dinner and special entertainment, a silent auction, as well as rides on the carousel.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to help fund the American Cancer Society's programs of research, education, advocacy, and patient service. 7th Annual Naugatuck River Duck Day and Race Festival

On Saturday, 11 - 4 p.m. Naugatuck River Kayak and Canoe Race 6.5 Miles begins in Watebury and ends in Beacon Falls.  We are now the largest one day paddling event in New England. A 5K road race will also be held with a big party to follow the finish of both events in Beacon Falls with Live Music and an Environmental Festival with many displays all day. Orvis, and other major businesses will be displaying their wares. After the race the river will re-open to recreational Paddlers as always. Entry Fee, Return transportation provided-- Food available.
