The eight-part documentary " 500 Nations" explores the history of the indigenous peoples of North and Central America from pre-Columbian times to the end of the 19th century. Part three, "The Clash of Cultures - The People Who Met Columbus" is an in-depth look at Columbus' arrival in the New World, the conquering of Caribbean nations by the Spaniards, and Hernando de Soto's con-quests in Florida and the Mississippi Valley. Run time: 47 minutes.

On Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3PM at the Litchfield History Museum a Lecture: The Treason Trail of Aaron Burr.  On 1807, three giants in the political arena came together to hash out one of our nation's most fascinating political dramas of the early republic.  Author and professor of law and history at the University of Connecticut School of Law, R. Kent Newmyer will discuss his book, The Treason Trail of Aaron Burr, and how President Jefferson and Chief Justice John Marshall played key roles in determining Burr's guilt or innocence.  Free for members, $5 for non-members.  Registration required.
