Bluebird Nesting Box Building at Flanders--Saturday, March 19, 2016 | 2 PM | The Studio-- Join Flanders' Certified Master Naturalist Edward Boisits as he gives a presentation about Eastern Bluebirds and guides participants in making their own bluebird nesting box. Edward will provide background on the history of the Eastern Bluebird and discuss the role of the nesting box initiative in helping to increase populations of these beautiful birds to sustainable levels. Come find out what you yourself can do to help to encourage these birds to nest in your own backyard. Annual MapleFest at Sharon Audubon Center

Audubon Sharon will be holding its annual MapleFest on Saturday, March 19 between 10 am and 4 pm at the Sharon Audubon Center, Route 4, Sharon, CT. On-going guided 45-minute tours will lead visitors through the Center's sugaring operation, including a working sugarhouse and a re-creation of Native American and early colonial sugaring methods. Participants can watch as pure sugar maple sap is collected from the trees and turned into delicious maple syrup. Admission for the event is $6.00 adults and $4.00 children (2 and under free.) Wear warm clothes and boots, as much of the tour is outdoors.
Fresh, homemade maple baked goods will also be available for purchase during the day as part of the Maple Bake Sale. Each treat will be made with the Center's very own maple syrup! Fresh syrup will be available for purchase while supplies last, as well as locally made maple candy.

March 19, 2016--Nevermore: Remembering the Great Auk with Gerri Griswold--The Great Auk , Garefowl, or Penguin of the North was a substantial sea bird whose extinction was entirely the work of humankind. The bird's existence ended on the morning of June 3, 1844, when the last two recorded Great Auks were killed by three fishermen on the island of Eldey off the southwest coast of Iceland. With pictures and through the words of Errol Fuller, a world-renowned authority on extinct birds, Griswold will illustrate the epic destruction of a species at the hands of mankind. Litchfield Hills Farm Fresh Market Hosts Winter Harvest Dinner
