Talk - Tuesday, August 12 at 4 pm.  Elizabeth Fishel is an author and journalist, teacher and mentor.  Her book Getting to 30: A Parent’s Guide to the 20-Something Years, co-written with Clark University developmental psychologist Jeffrey Arnett, is a research-based parenting guide for parents of 18-29 year olds. Fishel will talk about the book and some of the practical insights and revealing stories that went into it. Getting to 30 is the newly issued paperback edition of When Will My Grown-Up Kid Grow Up?

On Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 7-8PM at the Oliver Wolcott Library a program:  Seeing Cities Change: Local Culture and Class with Author Dr. Jerome Krase.  This book  demonstrates the utility of a visual approach to the study of ordinary streetscapes to document and analyse how the built environment effects the changing cultural and class identities of neighborhood residents. A wine and cheese reception will follow the event.   Space is limited.  Registration is required.

Young Writer’s Workshop August 13 and 14.  7 pm Noted Young Adult (YA) author Greg Galloway will hold a two-evening writing workshop for any young person interested in writing fiction. Author of As Simple as Snow and The 39 Deaths of Adam Strand, Galloway has given this workshop at high schools and conferences across the country to great success. He uses techniques and exercises he found to be the most helpful at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. The workshop should be of interest to any young writer between the ages of 14 and 24. The fee is $15. Dona Frauenhofer returns to The Litchfield Community Center on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 for her new Pinocchio: The Tale of the Puppet lecture.  This lecture examinees the original Italian story by Carlo Collodi and the subsequent file adaptations by Walt Disney and Roberto Benigni.  Video clips included.  Coffee and biscotti will be served.  Time:  9:30AM to 12 Noon.  Cost $14.  Pre-registration and pre-payment is required.

A graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop at the University of Iowa, with MFAs in both fiction and poetry, Galloway published his first novel, As Simple as Snow, in 2005.
