Sponsored by Roxbury Road Races.  River Road Preserve Access From the Roxbury green, go west on Weller's Bridge Road. At the base of the hill, turn left onto River Road. Parking is 0.6 miles on the right.Access: All three preserves are accessed through the River Road Preserve off River Road. Trails: The River Road trail is a 1.5 mile loop of moderate difficulty with some steep climbs and access to the Shepaug River. The Erbacher trail starts to the left after crossing Volunteers Bridge (0.75-mile in from the start of River Road trail) and is a 1.2-mile loop of easy to moderate hiking along an old railroad bed and through hilly terrain.
To access the Golden Harvest Preserve, turn right after crossing Volunteers Bridge and follow the railroad bed to the farm fields on the right. Features: Pond; good fly-fishing along Shepaug River; picnic tables at Volunteers Bridge, a suspension bridge built entirely by volunteers in 1991; old railroad bed.

Kathryn will demo the basics of making pate brisee and pate sucree, and working with puff pastry. You will help prepare doughs, learn how to line tart pans and bake a savory and sweet tart. We will then sit and share them for lunch with a salad. Our menu includes: Roasted tomato basil tart, walnut rosemary chevre tart, mushroom-shallot tart potato cheese tart, chocolate earl grey lavender tart, berry galette, almond-apricot-orange tart, cherry clafouti tart.

A Four Part Series on the Revolutionary War sponsored by the Harwinton Historical Society will take part on four Sunday afternoons at 2PM at the Harwinton Library. Dates: Sept. 22, November 3 and 10. The program will include the foundation of the 13 colonies, the French and Indian War, the various Taxation Acts and the Sons of Liberty. The audience will also learn about three famous battles: Saratoga, York Town and Griswold and about Connecticut's own Benedict Arnold's involvement both before and after his traitor activities. Dr. Karl Valois, professor at the University of Connecticut will be the presenter.
