On Monday, May 27, 2013 the Falls Village Memorial Day will begin with a salute to the fallen at 9:30AM on the Green with speaker Kirk Harrington, VFW Post 6851 commander.  The parade will form at Lee H. Kellogg School at 9:30AM and step off at 9:45AM.  Ceremony at the Green at 10AM.

On Monday, May 27, 2013 the Cornwall Memorial Day Service will being at 9AM at North Cornwall Cemetery.  Flowers are requested to decorate the graves. A 10AM Seamen's Service will be held at the Cornwall Covered Bridge.  A Memorial Day parade and ceremony will begin at 11AM on the Green.  A carnival will follow at the United Church of Christ.  Call for further information.

On Monday, May 27, 2013 the Canaan Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30AM from Town Hall.  A salute to the fallen will be at 11AM at the Doughboy with speaker and Vietnam veteran Peter Troisi.  Twenty-one gun salutes will be held at 14 cemeteries in Canaan/Lakeville/Falls Village and at Geer Retirement Center.  Call for further information.

Brookfield Historical Society Annual Stawberry Festival

On May 27, 2013 the Brookfield Museum's Annual Strawberry Festival will take place from noon to 3PM. Location: Historical Society's Museum grounds, 165 Whisconier Road  (at the junction of CT Routes 25 and 133). Following the Brookfield Memorial Day parade, the Museum and Historical Society will host its annual Strawberry Festival. The festival will feature, at no charge, a live jazz band and an antique car exhibit.  In addition homemade strawberry short cake and soft drink beverages will be sold to the public.  All proceeds will go to sponsor future public programming at the Museum. A memorial exhibit honoring Brookfield residents who died while in service to their country will also run concurrently at the Society Museum.

Gunn Memorial Library Offers The Story of Poetry in Spanish Discussion Series with Professor John Turner--Washington, CT

On Thursday,  May 9th and then Tuesdays at 6PM a dicussion Series with Professor John Turner will be help  at the Gunn Memorial Library.  The dynamic series of discussions continues as we explore the development of the poetic tradition in Spanish through the reading of English translations (alongside the original texts) of works from the Middle Ages to the present in Spain and Latin America. Copies of the readings are available at the circulation desk. Bowdoin Professor Emeritus John Turner will be leading the weekly discussion this Thursday, and subsequent Tuesdays, at 6:00pm ending May 28.  Please call to ensure adequate materials. All programs are free and open to the public.
