Capturing the speed and beauty of auto racing is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in sports photography. The Lime Rock Park Motorsports Photography Workshop III offers you the opportunity to learn and improve your skills – taught by the top motorsports photographers working today – at the most scenic race track in North America. Lime Rock is offering both a one-day and two-day workshop during the Grand-Am race weekend Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29, 2012.
NOTE: The workshop is designed for intermediate to experienced photographers. Each student must own a digital SLR camera with interchangeable lenses and possess a level of understanding of how cameras function beyond beginner and novice. For more information visit the website.

Established in 1787, the Town will observe its 225th anniversary at the annual Southbury Celebration, a town-wide event featuring food, music and fireworks. In commemoration of the town's history and heritage, the Southbury Historical Society will have a booth at the celebration. Join us there! Our staff of volunteers will be present to share the history of Southbury with visitors and the Society's commemorative ornament will be available for purchase. Our booth opens at 5:30 p.m. and will remain open until 7:30 p.m.

LEF (Litchfield Education Foundation) promotes excellence and innovation in public education throughout the entire Litchfield community.  Since we began in 2004, we have been able to help hundreds of students through our grant program, which supports projects that make a real difference in the classroom, but cannot be funded by the schools' operational or capital budgets. Projects that might not have happened without the financial support of LEF. We have also supported programs outside of the Litchfield public schools, awarding grant funding to the Oliver Wolcott Library and the Litchfield Historical Society for children's educational programs. A free genealogy workshop will be held  Saturday, September 29, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Library in cooperation with the Brooks-Green Woods Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Attendees should bring a sandwich. Punch and cookies will be provided. Verna Gilson, Genealogical Assistant at the Library will provide an introduction to the genealogical resources available there. Participants are encouraged to bring genealogical information on themselves, their parents, and their grandparents. Experienced DAR members will offer guidance for further research and help those interested in DAR membership. Any woman eighteen years of age or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible.
