Sharon Historical Society Program: A Journey into Sharon's Gilded Age

On October 27, 2012 at 3PM the Sharon Historical Society will host Vicky Ross who will present "Arthur Duane and Cool Gales: A Journey into Sharon's Gilded Age".  Ross, who has been researching the house at 26 Amenia Union Road since she and her husband Dennis bought the property in 2009 will give an illustrated presentation including a brief history of the Colonial Revival house and its distinguished former occupants.  The talk will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity to speak with Ross.

This unusually bright moon light has traditionally pro­vided light for the fall harvest.Afterwards, gather around a campfire and roast marshmallows and perhaps listen to some Halloween stories. On Saturday, October 27, 2012, 2:00 p.m. Join us for a 90-minute guided walking tour of one of Southbury’s oldest neighborhoods: South Britain. Bordered on the west by the Pomperaug River and on the east by steep wooded ridges, South Britain once served as the town’s early manufacturing and commercial area, and was seat of Southbury town government until 1964. Valued as a significant site worthy of preservation, South Britain was designated as a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. The walking tour, lead by long-time resident, Hugh Sullivan, will wind its way around South Britain’s historic district and include a visit to the Hawkins Trap Factory on the Pomperaug River.
