Old Town Hall Museum, 624 South Britain Road (Route 172), South Britain, CT Phone: 203-405-3124 .
On Saturday, October 27, 2012, 2:00 p.m. Join us for a 90-minute guided walking tour of one of Southbury’s oldest neighborhoods: South Britain. Bordered on the west by the Pomperaug River and on the east by steep wooded ridges, South Britain once served as the town’s early manufacturing and commercial area, and was seat of Southbury town government until 1964. Valued as a significant site worthy of preservation, South Britain was designated as a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. The walking tour, lead by long-time resident, Hugh Sullivan, will wind its way around South Britain’s historic district and include a visit to the Hawkins Trap Factory on the Pomperaug River.
