Now in its 2nd year, Memories at the Mattatuck is a collaboration between the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter and the Museum and is supported in part by the Connecticut Community Foundation. Visitors are invited to participate in engaging gallery tours developed for people with dementia and their caregivers, at no cost. Medical researchers have found that people with dementia and early to moderate Alzheimer’s disease, who are involved with looking at historical artifacts and discussing art as effective therapies, are experiencing positive results and a better quality of life. As a recovering food addict who has maintained a more than 150-pound weight loss for over 25 years, Dr. Danowski knows all to well the humiliating experience of trying diet after diet only to end up more overweight than before. Her talk, “Five Myths About Weight Loss,” will shed new light on this national epidemic. As part of her talk, Dr. Danowski will also share two healthy eating recipes and provide examples of proper portion sizes. Ms. Danowski, Ph.D. is the author of five popular books about weight loss and food addiction and an associate professor of Communication and Media Studies at Sacred Heart University.
