54th Annual Chrysanthemum Festival - Bristol

The Festival Opening Ceremony is on Friday night with the Crowning of Miss Mum and Jr. Miss Mum followed by a variety of activities for all ages on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.  Events include Touch-a-Truck, Soap Box Derby Run for all children to try, Ride the Train, Juried and Non-Juried crafters, and Organization booths sponsoring a variety of free activities including crafts, face painting and games and the CHIP (Child Identification Program). Stage Performances include:  Magic acts, Jugglers and Live bands throughout the entire day. The Antique Cars roll in at 5:00 p.m. sponsored by the Bristol Auto Club with music performed by Rock-n-Rhythm, Balloon Glow begins at dusk and Memorial Boulevard School grounds.  Enjoy Apple Fritters Center Stage Right during the day on Saturday and for the morning lift of on Sunday.  These little nuggets of deliciousness, served warm are soft, decadent, with real chunks of apple, rolled in sweet cinnamon and sugar.

Sunday includes Balloons over Bristol 6:00 a.m. – lift off at Memorial Boulevard School grounds, followed by a Hometown Hero breakfast fundraiser provided by the American Legion.  The Mum Parade begins at 1:30 p.m. where FREE balloons will be given out.  Throughout the remaining 2 weeks local museums, public facilities and organizations will offer Open Houses, an Oktoberfest sponsored by the German Club and the 46th running of the Bristol Mum-a-Thon road race.  We conclude on Saturday, October 3rd with a BINGO fundraiser.  For more information or details visit the website.

The David M. Hunt Library is now selling tickets for its 14th Annual Auction in the Village to be held on Saturday, September 26 from 5-8pm at the Center on Main in Falls Village.  Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door on the day of the event.  Tickets can be purchased at the library, by calling 860-824-7424, or by visiting www.huntlibrary.org. This year’s Auction in the Village will feature live and silent auctions, catering by Freund’s Farm Market, music by Vance Cannon and wine, beer, and the library’s signature Green Man Grog.  A silent auction will take place 5 and 7pm with a live auction starting at 7:15pm sharp.  A broad selection of quality auction items include artisan crafts, artworks, workshops, items for the home, kitchen and garden, the season’s hottest new books, day passes to Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, a Michael Kors handbag, 2 season tickets to Lime Rock Park and a group dinner at The Falls Village Inn.  Auction in the Village is one of the NW Corner’s most popular social events and a great opportunity for the community to support the Hunt Library and make new friends.

Norfolk Presents A Starry, Starry Night--Tickets: $225 - $195 - $95 - $75 - $65 - $50 - $35. Shortly after composer and arranger Kim Scharnberg proposed to Gwynn Griffin, also a musician, they agreed they didn't want a traditional reception for their wedding. They wanted to do a benefit concert instead, and what better place than one of their favorite venues, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival's historic Music Shed. The Shed is undergoing a major renovation, with Phase One already complete. An additional $250,000 is needed in order to secure a $1,000,000 matching grant. Scharnberg and Griffin's September 26th concert is directly aimed at helping achieve that goal.Guest perfomers include Broadway star and recording artist Linda Eder, hit singer/songwriter Edwin McCain, jazz great Chris Brubeck, virtuoso flutist Rhonda Larson, DC theatre star Kevin McAllister, opera diva Alyson Cambridge, and Turkish vocalist Seran Bilgi and some surprise special guest artists.

This is a full band concert extravaganza that gives vintage country and non-country fans alike the chance to experience a Waylon Jennings live show.
