Litchfield Historical Society Exhibit: The House of Worth Fashion Lecture by Guest Curator

7 South Street, Litchfield, CT 06759. Phone: 860-567-4501.

Join us on Sunday, August 30 at 3 p.m. for a lecture in honor of our new exhibit, The House of Worth: Dressing Litchfield. Guest curator for the exhibit, Karen DePauw, will explore the influence of WWI on the couture fashions of the house of Worth, Paris's first haute couturier. The fashions of an era reflect the times in which they were created and the war not only affected designs, but also the future of the Parisian couture industry in the years following. Following the lecture, explore the exhibit and see up close the hand-colored sketches with fabric swatches distributed by the house of Worth to a client who summered in Litchfield. Pick up a copy of the catalog, The House of Worth: Fashion Sketches, 1916–1918, published by Dover Publications and co-authored by Ms. DePauw. Lectures are free for members and $5 for non-members. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Payment is required at time of registration.
