The Annual Menorah Lighting - Middlebury

On Wednesday at 3:30p.m  on the Middlebury Green, as the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah begins. The lighting ceremony has been arranged by the Middlebury Congregational Church. The community is invited to this holiday celebration. The church's maintenance staff set up the menorah, as a gift to its Jewish neighbors.  The Middlebury lighting ceremony includes the traditional Hanukkah blessings and the song Rock of Ages. Those in attendance will be invited to take the responsibility to light the menorah on the following nights.

KENT HOLIDAY CHAMPAGNE STROLL SET FOR THANKSGIVING WEEKEND -- The first annual Kent Holiday Champagne Stroll will be held on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thirty participating merchants are presenting 30 different champagnes, one at each shop. Strollers will taste champagnes, cavas, proseccos and cremants. Visitors start by purchasing a flute for $5 at the first store they enter.  All participating shops are selling flutes so people can start at any store.  Strollers will also receive a map indicating participating shops and their champagne offering.  Keep and use the flute is for the remainder of the evening. Enjoy walking around town sampling the champagnes and shopping at the stores.   If you visit every shop, your name will be entered into a drawing for a bottle of Dom Perignon, donated by Ira Smith, owner of Kent Wine and Spirits. Smith notes that "while strollers shop they'll be able to sample more different types of champagnes and sparkling wine than we do at a trade tasting. Local restaurants are also participating and visitors to Kent are encouraged to end their evening of shopping by having dinner in town. A number of shops are having special events within their stores to add to the festive tone of the evenings. Saturday, November 30 coincides with American Express's Small Business Saturday marketing campaign which encourages shoppers to support local businesses.
