REVOLUTIONARY WAR VIDEO SEMINAR SERIES--CITIZENS & CHOICES--Saturday, November 21 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
CITIZENS & CHOICES is one of the 25 scheduled lectures being offered as part of our Yale Open Courses video seminar series regarding the Revolutionary War and in partnership with Danbury Public Library. THIS LECTURE shows how Americans experienced the war and made difficult choices, Professor Freeman offers a spur-of-the-moment lecture on New Haven during the Revolution, discussing how Yale College students and New Haven townspeople gradually became caught up in the war. Warfare finally came to New Haven in July 1779 when the British army invaded the town. Professor Freeman draws on first-hand accounts to provide a narrative of the invasion of New Haven.This series began July 22, 2015 and runs to April 23, 2016. Get a stamp in your series "passport" for each session you attend. Get ten stamps and you're invited to a special gathering in The John & Mary Rider House on April 26, 2016.Registration is required.

FULL BEAVER MOON HIKE – Sat. Nov. 21, 6 pm--For both the colonists and the Algonquin tribes, this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. This full moon was also called the Frost Moon. Join the Nature Center's rangers, who will lead this unique hike designed for families. $1.00 per person. Please register in advance. Presented by the Salisbury Association Historical Society in collaboration with the Scoville Memorial Library. Sixty years ago, floods changed the landscape of the Northeastern U.S., particularly Connecticut. Hurricanes Connie and Diana deposited over 20 inches of rain in one week. View images and hear live reminiscences of the 1955 floods in Salisbury. We welcome everyone, but we extend a specific invitation to those who lived through that time and would be willing to share their experiences. Light refreshments will be served.
