At the Henderson Cultural Center's Silo Gallery an Open Visitor's Sketchbook will be available for visitors of all ages to contribute a drawing or to write their thoughts about the process of drawing. Draw On! is a community program that began in 2006 with the help of the Ridgefield High School group, Art Lab. These students invited their schools, town libraries, local coffee shops, even an area hospital to participate in " a week of drawing in the community." Nadzia Borowski, an LHAC member with a 25 year interest in the ancient Maya, who has traveled with well-known professionals to many Maya ruins, will present The Role of Royal Women in Ancient Maya Politics; An Illustrated Lecture. Royal women appeared in Maya art only when they served a political function. Once the political goal of a community had been achieved, women were no longer deemed important enough to be publicly portrayed. This presentation will discuss several Maya queens who were portrayed in works of art.
