34th Annual Cactus and Succulent Show and Sale

The Connecticut Cactus and Succulent Society will celebrate its 34th Annual Cactus and Succulent Show and Sale on Sat., April 1st and Sunday April 2nd, 2017, at the Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, CT. This is the largest show of its kind in the East, with over one thousand visitors each year. The judged show has more than 100 categories with over 500 entries. In addition, there will be at least 14 vendors with a huge selection of C&S plants, pots, soils, and books. Admission to the show and sale is free. The sales area will be open to the public on Sat. from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Free plants will be given to the first 50 families entering the show on both days. There will also be a series of free lectures (a schedule of lectures will be posted on the below website) and auctions of larger plants. Back by popular demand, Deborah O'Connor, of Rhode Island, will create individual portraits cut entirely freehand from paper, using scissors as her only tool. Silhouettes were popular in the 1700 & 1800s until the development of photography caused the silhouette's decline. Deb will join us on Saturday, April 1 at the Newtown Congregational Church in Newtown from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Visitors will pose for the silhouette as Deb creates lovely works of art in a matter of minutes. It is the perfect holiday gift, and a future cherished family heirloom. The first silhouette is $30, additional copies $15. Silhouettes are mounted on archival quality card stock.
