The Sixth annual Canaan Parade of Lights on December 1, 2013 will have some new activities as part of this year's festivities.  A Christmas Vendor Fair at North Canaan Elementary School will  be offered from 3-7PM along with a spaghetti dinner to benefit the Connecticut Railroad Historical Association from 5-7PM.  Dinner is $10, children under 10 eat free.  The parade will begin at 5PM ending up at the Little League field on Whiting Drive. 

Kent Singers Perform European Motets and Carols from Renaissance to Contemporary

The Kent Singers, under the direction of Matthew Travis, will perform a program of European motets and carols from the Renaissance to contemporary periods a 3PM, December 1, 2013 at the Kent School Chapel.  There will be a special performance by the Kent Center School Singers.  Tickets $15 at the door, $12 in advance, kids 12 and under are free.

A Christmas tree lighting and carol sing will begin at 5PM on December 1, 2013 at Baldwin Park.  The event is sponsored by the Beautification Committee and the Lions Club.  Hot chocolate for all.  Join in the fun!

Christmas Village and Antique Toy Display at the Twitchell Rowland Homestead - Oxford

On December 1 and 15 from 2-4 p.m. The Twitchell Rowland Homestead  will showcase a miniature village decorated for the holidays and a display of vintage toys on Sunday, December 1 and Sunday, December 15.  Staffed by members of the Oxford Historical Society, the museum is open from 2-4 p.m. and located at 60 Towner Lane in Oxford.  Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Hundreds of tiny buildings, people, animals and accessories make up the electrified town of yesteryear.  Collected by Historical Society President Louise Burr from tag sale finds, gifts and a few purchases, the landscape features a ski slope, shops, twirling skaters and a working railroad. Also on display will be a variety of vintage toys which belonged to Mrs. Burr and to her two sisters, Eleanor Sturges and Jessie King.  Purchased from 1930 to 1950, the playthings include circus figures, wind-up tin birds, early mechanical Disney figures, a tray featuring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and small games such as a bowling set. The three rooms of the 1755 saltbox also will be decorated with greens and seasonal ornaments for the holidays.  Additional information is available by calling Nancy Farnum.
