White Memorial Conservation Center will host a Morning Walk to Apple Hill and Cat Swamp with Gerri Griswold at 7AM.  Meet in front of the A.B. Ceder Room. 

3-D Fireworks at Quassy Amusement Park

The park will again shoot its 10:15 p.m. fireworks display from barges anchored offshore so everyone attending the park that evening will be able to enjoy them. Parking on July 4th is $8 at Quassy with the park opening at 11 a.m. Quassy Beach and Splash Away Bay waterpark will operate until 7 p.m. with the remainder of the park staying open until after the evening fireworks. Special "3-D" fireworks viewing glasses will be sold for $1 on July 4th at Quassy to benefit Healthy Eyes Alliance.

The Kent Historical Society will once again offer three weeks of Art Enrichment Programs for children from July 6 through July 24. The Historical Society wants to foster arts education for young people in our area to honor the memory of George Laurence Nelson, a pre-eminent 20th Century artist known for his portraits, landscapes and florals, who lived at Seven Hearths for many years and bequeathed his 18th century home to the Kent Historical Society to operate as a museum.   

Classes will take place in the Kent Historical Society’s “Art Barn,” an indoor/outdoor space on the campus of the Historical Society’s Seven Hearths property, facing gardens and a woodland that will be used as extended classroom space. BUTTERFLIES OF THE PARK – Wed. July 8, 2015 at 11 am.--Butterflies are found on every continent except Antarctica, and about 121 species have been recorded in Connecticut. These beautiful and diverse insects live 100 feet below sea level in U.S. deserts, and have been seen flying 20,000 feet over the Himalayas by airplane pilots. These seemingly fragile flyers may be tougher than we think! Come to see and learn about the butterflies living in the meadows and gardens of the Nature Center. FREE. Please register.
