Oct. 4, 6 pm With leaves falling, and prey animals fattening up on the acorn crop, this is the time of year when the indigenous residents of our area (and modern hunters too) could "bring home the bacon." $1.00 per person. On Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 7PM the Barkhamsted Historical Society will hold its first barn dance in the new post-and-beam barn on the property of Squire's Tavern.  Admission is $5 and refreshments will be served.  Participants are encouraged to wear old-fashioned costumes, but not required.  Call for further information.

The Imagine Nation Museum of Bristol will be hosting Family Farms Day at Roberts Orchards located at 125 Hill Street on Saturday, October 4th from 11am-4pm. The rain date is Sunday, October 5th. This Family Fall Event will feature activities including afternoon hayrides from 2-4pm, pumpkin decorating, face painting, hands on activities, performers and much more!  The Build a Scarecrow Shindig will be taking place from 12-3pm where families are welcome to bring clothes to decorate their Scarecrow or choose from bins of clothes graciously donated by Savers of Bristol.  The 13th annual Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest will be held at 2pm where children ages 5-15 are invited to enter the zany beauty contest where a team of judges will be looking for the most worn out and smelliest pair of sneakers they can find.  The winner of this regional contest will receive lots of fame, Odor-Eaters Products®, $200.00, and the Golden Sneaker Award. The winner must be able to attend the National Contest at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in New York City on March 24, 2015. Registrations will be accepted the day of the event between 12:15- 1:30pm at Roberts Orchard.   The Roberts Orchard store will be open to purchase pumpkins, as well as homemade breads, pies, and their famous apple cider donuts. The Imagine Nation Museum and Bristol Exchange Club will also have food for sale.

The Imagine Nation Museum will be sponsoring the 13th Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest® on Saturday, October 4th at 2:00pm sharp at Roberts Orchards, 125 Hill Street in Bristol. Children ages 5-15 are invited to enter this zany beauty contest where a team of judges will be looking for the most worn out and smelliest pair of sneakers they can find! Contestants will take to the runway to show off their famed, foul-looking, and stinky sneakers to our prestigious team of Odorologists. Contestants must be wearing their own sneakers that have been naturally worn out. The winner of this regional contest will receive lots of fame, Odor-Eaters Products®, $200.00, and the Golden Sneaker Award. On October 4, 2014 at Seven Hearths Museum the Kent Historical Society will host a Double Birthday Celebration to commemorate two special anniversaries.  the 275th anniversary of the Town of Kent and the 60th anniversary of founding of the Kent Historical Society will be celebrated.  A time capsule will be filled with donations from Kent residents.  The capsule will be opened in 25 years at the next celebration.  Admission to the celebration is free but donations toward the historical society's wish lit will be accepted.
