4 pm. Kirby explores a variety of industries found in Sharon, Connecticut from its 1739 settlement into the early twentieth century. Kirby's book "Industrial Sharon" provides an interesting analysis of the role and interplay of iron, wood, cotton, wool and water. Originally unencumbered by political borders Kirby thus takes us to nearby Lime Rock, Amesville, Wassaic, Cornwall, Canaan, Kent and other locations to explore these town's association with the iron and charcoal industries. Additionally he discusses stories of well-known industrialists who lived in Sharon but performed their activities in other parts of the nation.
