The Naugatuck Historical Society is proud to be collaborating with the Naugatuck Fire Department this October to provide a special exhibit and programs for children, families and adults.  This month see some of the rare artifacts from the archives of the Fire Department and the Naugatuck Historical Society.  On Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 11AM to Noon join Colette's Craft Program.  Come and give your kids a hands on experience at the Naugatuck Historical Society this month make firefighters and helmts with the Fire Department.  Wear your own gear if you have it.  Registration is recommended. $2 pe child.

2:00 p.m., join Alison and Dawn at the Ansonia Nature Center for an APPLE PIE WORKSHOP, and take home a fresh apple pie - made from great Connecticut grown apples -ready to bake at home. Then you and your family can enjoy a slice of homemade apple pie, perhaps with a scoop of vanila ice cream or a slice of cheese.Bring your apron, paring knife, or apple peeler and a rolling pin (if you have one.) A live auction of original paintings will be conducted by Del Bourree-Bach who is also an artist. Members and non-members are welcome to participate. On Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 1-3PM join Ken Hanks one of Naugatuck's own Fire Chief  who will give a presentation on the story of Naugatuck's Fire Department and the people who made it great.  Free for members, $2 for non-members.

On Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2PM at the Gunn Memorial Museum a lecture--Connecticut at Antietam with Antietam National Battlefield Historian Keven Walker wil be held.  Tweleve Washington men fought at the battle of Antietam in Sharpsburg, Maryland.  It is known as the bloodiest single-day battle in American history with about 23,000 casualties.  Learn about what these men faced and endured in one of the Civil War's signature battles.  Free and open to the public.
