Riverton Fishing Derby - Opening Day of Fishing-- April 9, 2016.  Every year on Opening Day of fishing season in Connecticut, the banks of the Farmington River West Branch are lined with anglers of all ages. At 6 a.m. Saturday, the bell sounds from the Riverton Volunteer Fire Co. sending rods and reels into action. The river is amply stocked through the combined efforts of the Connecticut DEP, the MDC and Hitchcock, the “Trophy Trout Club” and patrons from the Riverton General Store, a group of individuals that have fished the derby for decades, have joined their efforts and resources to encourage this traditional experience to continue. The result translates to a greater number of trophy fish added to this seasons event. By 10 a.m. a crowd gathers to catch a glimpse of the "ones that didn't get away". A designated area is outlined for the children's derby also from 6 - 10 a.m. Additional prizes will be presented. Doors open at 4 a.m. that morning to the ever popular Fisherman's Breakfast hosted by the Riverton Volunteer Fire Company. The public are welcome to enjoy a breakfast for a small donation. The Warner Stage Company will present the provocative David Mamet production RACE on the Warner's Nancy Marine Studio Stage April 9-17, 2016. Multiple award-winning playwright/director David Mamet tackles America's most controversial topic in a provocative new tale of sex, guilt and bold accusations. Two lawyers find themselves defending a wealthy white executive charged with raping a black woman. This production contains adult language and situations and is recommended for a mature audience. The Warner Stage Company production of RACE is directed by Sharon A. Wilcox. Performances are Saturday, April 9 & 16 at 8:00 pm, Sunday, April 10 & 17 at 2:00 pm and Friday, April 15 at 8:00 pm.

Bella is 35 years old, mentally challenged and living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. As the play opens, ne'r-do-well son Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady's doorstep.
