To commemorate Harriet Beecher Stowe's Birthday, born on June 14, 1811. On Tuesday, festivites will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a children's birthday party for Stowe, featuring a scavenger hunt of Harriet Beecher's childhood haunts, party games, journal entries from the young Harriet as well as friends who knew her, and of course, a birthday cake. The fee for this event is $5. per child. In the evening from 7 to 8:15 p.m., Jerry Geci will lead a discussion on Stowe's Poganuc People. We will also feature letters written by Harriet during her time at the Litchfield Female Academy. Cake will be served following the discussion. The Historical Society has a limited number of copies of the book and participants are welcome to reserve their copy. This event is free to members and $5 for non-members. On June 18th, 10 p.m. the Historical Society's walking tour will feature sites related to the Beecher family and the mark they left on Litchfield. This tour will begin at the History Museum and last about 1 hour. Free for member and $7 for non-members, and fees include admission to both museums. Visit the website or call for more information.
