A Lawn Party from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Gertrude Jekyll Garden.  Guest may sample Gertrude's Garden, a white wine named for Gertrude Jekyll from Walker Road Vineyards in Woodbury.  Additional wines and cheeses and hors d'oeuvres will also be served.  A silent auction of special items is planned. Our mini celebration of the Land of Fire and Ice features Icelandic Chickens, Sheep, Dogs, and Horses (DON'T CALL THEM PONIES!). Sample Icelandic foods! The day will feature a presentation by Tom Alena from the Talcott Mountain Science Academy about the geological wonders he experienced on his recent trip to Iceland. Icelandic ornithologist, Johann Oli Hilmarsson will speak about the North Atlantic Puffin, and Gerri Griswold's travelogue will have you thinking, "Why haven't I ever visited Iceland?" There will also be a showing of the documentary film, "Future of Hope" which tells the story of a few Icelanders who are taking a path towards a more sustainable future.

On Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11AM the Naugatuck Historical Society will offer Creature Feature.   This program will give families an opporturnity to see and touch live bugs!  Children will also be given the opportunity to paint a rock to make their own bug to take home. $2 per person, $5 for the whole family.  Call to register.

On Saturday, July 14, 2012 the Tibet Fest 6 will be held at the Goshen Fairgrounds on Route 63.  Aimed at raising awareness about Tibet, the cultural event will feature food, music, guest speakers and vendors in support of the movement to aid in a free Tibet.  Time: 10-7PM. Display of Civil War memorabiliaThe restored 1852 Woodruff & Beach steam engine will be running, the only one of its kind still operational in the U.S. Find out where the term “balls to the wall” came from! Also 11am-12:30pm Plymouth Center Walk-join the Plymouth Land Trust on a tour of the Plymouth Burying Ground where 38 soldiers from the Revolutionary War are buried. Learn about the symbolism of the inscriptions on the gravestones, see the house where George Washington slept, and where slaves seeking freedom were harbored at a stop on the Underground Railroad. Plymouth Center is on the National Register of Historic Places. Meet in front of the Congregational Church on the corner of Rt. 6 and North St. in Plymouth.  Free refreshments at Antiques at the Green. Both events are free. Rain date is July 15.
