On Saturday, December 17, at 6:00 p.m., bring your own percussion instrument and join Ranger Dawn at the Ansonia Nature Center for a WINTER SOLSTICE DRUMMING CIRCLE around an open fire. In this cold month during which daylight has dwindled, come celebrate the winter solstice with music as we look forward to our days growing longer. On Saturday, December 17, about noon, is part of a 112 year old tradition when you help to spot the many species of birds spending the winter in our area. There is no need to be a skilled birder to participate, but the experts will be out very early in the morning counting and identifying every bird seen or heard. Join them for all or part of the day. The New Haven Bird Club will be checking out the Ansonia Nature Center from about 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Bird count results are sent to the National Audubon Society, and are included in the international census of early winter bird populations. On Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 6:30PM local author and historian Michael-John Cavallaro will present a lecture and sign copies of his new book, Tales of Old New Milford: Slavery, Crime and Punishment on the Connecticut Frontier in the Wykeham Room of the Gunn Memorial Library.  Join a night of historical horror, crime and punishment like no other.  Mr. Cavallaro spent three years researching this fascinating book.   Snow Date: Thursday, December 22nd at 6:30PM.  Even tis free and open to the public.
