Indian Rock Nature Preserve Hosts Santa's Petting Farm--Bristol

Indian Rock Nature Preserve will hold a Santa's Petting Farm on Saturdays, December 8th and 15th. Santa will be making a special appearance for this event, along with his barnyard friends!  There will be horses, chickens, rabbits, sheep, and Nina the cow! All those who come will take a hayride to the Pebble House, where Santa will be waiting by a crackling fire! Visitors can have their picture taken with Santa and then make a frame for the photo. The Fuller F. Barnes Educational Center will be turned into a winter wonderland room, where visitors can warm up with free hot chocolate. Holiday crafts, stocking stuffers and tasty treats will also be for sale. The hours of Santa's Petting Farm will be from 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. The cost is $5/person and children under one are free.

On Saturday 3:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Long Journey Home for Albert Afraid of Hawk” Presented by Connecticut State Archaeologist Nicholas F. Bellantoni, Ph.D. In 1900, Albert Afraid of Hawk was performing with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show touring New England when the performers came down with food poisoning. Albert died in Danbury Hospital and was buried in an unmarked grave in Wooster Cemetery.   Recently, local historian, Bob Young located Albert's burial card from the cemetery archives and notified the family at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.   Albert's grandniece, Marlis Afraid of Hawk, had a dream that Albert wanted to come home and she initiated the repatriation process. Dr. Bellantoni presents the history and his responsibility of exhuming Albert for the long journey home.      Fee: $5; Free to LHAC Members
