Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum Program: David Scanavino Studio Visit--Ridgefield

258 Main St., Ridgefield, CT 06877. Phone: 203-438-4519.

On February 12, 2014 David Scanavino will offer a Studio Visit. Don’t miss this Aldrich Insiders visit to the studio of an artist who is preparing for an exhibition at The Aldrich! This special perk will introduce members to David Scanavino, whose exhibition will open in fall 2014 as part of the Museum’s 50th Anniversary celebration, giving visitors a first look at what to expect in his presentation. Don’t miss your opportunity to connect with the artist, learn what inspires him, and be the first to see his plans for the work that will be on view, while they are being created! Scanavino exploits the legacy of minimalism, with its affinity for reduced forms and industrial surfaces, but instead of polished steel and aluminum, he employs cheap, institutional materials like linoleum and newsprint pulp. For The Aldrich, he will create a site-specific floor installation and new large-scale wall relief, transforming the South Gallery into both an experiential sculpture and an engaging platform for interactivity. In addition, a new outdoor sculpture for the Museum’s inner courtyard will play off the vista, enhancing the visual acuity of the grassy grounds beyond. Aldrich Insiders is a series of programs designed to offer our members special access to people, places and ideas that are at the center of innovative and influential contemporary art practices. Members at the Partner level and above receive a complimentary invitation to attend these exclusive events! All others are welcome to take part in a single tour or the entire series for a participation fee. Space is extremely limited, so register early!
