The 5th annual running of "The Grape Race," otherwise known as the "Haight to Run 5K Cross Country race, a picturesque run through the grounds of the Haight-Brown Vineyard and the trails of White Memorial Conservancy. They will go through a step-by-step plan to address daily paperwork: how, when and where to file papers, and how long papers should be kept.  The result will be a paper management system that is simple to set up and easy to maintain. On Saturday, May 14, 2011 the 6th Annual Celebration of Young Writers and Benefit Auction will start at 5PM.  The event will take place at Bryan Memorial Hall.  $50 General Admisson, $100 Reserved Seating.  Beginning at 5:30PM with a cocktail reception that features a live and silent auction with all proceeds benefiting ASAP.  Proceeding along a candlelit path, you will be treated to the best prose and poetry from Region 12's students read by celebrity readers such as Denis Leary, Candace Bushnell, Jerry Adler and other talented individuals from the worlds of literature and entertainment.  The night will close with the Frank McCourt Award for Excellence in Teaching being awarded for the very first time to a local educator.

7th Annual Still River Waterway and Greenway Clean Up Day

On Saturday May 14, 2011 The Seventh Annual Still River Waterway and Greenway Cleanup will take place starting at 8 am at Larsen’s Farm on Junction Road in Brookfield, Connecticut. The clean-up is co-sponsored by the Keep America Clean - Great American Cleanup campaign, The America Rivers National River Clean-up Campaign, and Connecticut Water Trails Association. This year the cleanup will focus on the six  mile Brookfield section of the Still River. Volunteers will work on collecting and removing trash and other debris along the way. Volunteers will be fed lunch.  Presently we are looking for volunteers not only to help with trash removal, but also with first aid certification and trucks for hauling trash. Please let us know by May 2, 2011 if you are able to participate – so we can plan accordingly. If you represent a group – please give us a head count. Saturday, May 14, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You don't need to travel to Vermont to experience the famous King Arthur Baking Education Center. It's right here at the Silo! Classes will be taught by Jessica Myers. Chef Meyers has a culinary arts background and has worked at King Arthur Flour since 2001 as a Baking Education Center instructor and assistant, an instructor for King Arthur's Traveling Baking Demos, and on the Bakers' Hotline.In this class, students will work with a variety of yeast doughs to create a selection of rolls such as Grainy Garlic, Olive, and Crescents, as well as produce small rolled breads like Raisin Cinnamon and Stromboli.  All recipes are easily adapted to traditional large-size bread loaves.(Full participation)  Teens welcome.$85, per person or 2 for $160.
