Ferdinand the Bull: A Classical Concert for Kids of All Ages--Sherman Chamber Ensemble offers free August 8 performance at Sherman Library. On Saturday, August 8 at 2 p.m. The Sherman Chamber Ensemble will share its interpretation of the story – set to original music composed by its artistic director, Eliot Bailen – in a free classical concert for families and kids of all ages at the Sherman Public Library Barn, 1 Sherman Center, Sherman, CT.  Flutist Susan Rotholz will narrate the story and be accompanied by Bailen on cello.Also on the program list are "Lullaby for String Quartet," by George Gershwin (1898-1937) and "String Quartet in D major op. 44, no. 1," by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847). Rotholz and Bailen will be joined by Jill Levy and Doori Na on violin, and Keats Dieffenbach, on viola. A Meet and Greet Reception with the artists will follow. Admission is free to the public,

Institute for American Indian Studies - Albert’s Journey Home

2 p.m.  to 4 p.m. Albert Afraid of Hawk, born 1879 on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, traveled with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show across American. Sadly on June 20, 1900, he was stricken with food poisoning while performing in Connecticut.
Albert died in Danbury Hospital and was buried in Wooster Cemetery, where he lay in an unmarked grave until 2008 when his records were discovered by the President of the Danbury Historical Society, Robert Young.  Join Robert Young (Danbury Historical Society), Lakota Elder Wendell Deer With Horns, and Nicholas Bellantoni (retired Connecticut State Archeologist), as they recount their personal stories and involvement while finding and returning Albert home to Pine Ridge. Included in regular museum admission of: $8 Adults; $6 Seniors; $5 Children; IAIS Members Free.

Housatonic RiverFest Hosted by Town of Cornwall's 275th Anniversary Celebration

The Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) will host a Housatonic RiverFest in honor of the Town of Cornwall's 275th Anniversary from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 9 in the center of West Cornwall. Richard Sears, HVA's Development Director, said, "This fun, family-oriented day will feature river-related games, exhibits and displays by local organizations, and fly-fishing and water safety demonstrations. Kids will enjoy a variety of games and demonstrations. There will also be a reading tent with river-themed books selected by the Cornwall Free Library." The festival includes live music on Ian Ingersoll Cabinetmakers' porch featuring Uncle Terry's Swisch Wagon band, and a hot dog stand hosted by the eighth grade class of Cornwall Consolidated School. The Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance crews will help with demonstrations and parking. The grand finale at 3 p.m. will be a "Funny Boat Float" -- a paddle parade of home-made and decorated watercraft on a still water section of the river above the covered bridge. The event is free.
