St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington CT will open the 2011-12 Concert Series with the return of The Yale Whiffenpoofs on Saturday, September 24 at 8PM.  The origins of the historic a capella group can be traced to 1909 when a few Yale Glee Club members began to gather at Mory's Temple Bar on a weekly basis to sing together.  They are one of the most well known collegiate singing groups.  Tickets for the concert $40 per person.  Call for tickets.

On Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 1PM at the Gunn Memorial Museum a lecture--Popular Music of the Civil War with the Virginia Serenaders will be held.  Inspired by an 1840s group, tunes solidiers of the North and South learned as part of their shared experience will be performed on antique and reproduction instruments providing an authentic sound.  A blend of historical research mixed with lively interpretation these musicians regularly perform for historical groups.  Program is free and open to the public.
