Brookfield Museum Host Presentation on Revolutionary War Battle of Long Island

On Monday evening September 11, 2017 at 7:30 PM the Brookfield Historical Society will host a multi-media presentation. The speaker, Joseph Cerreto, will feature a program on the Revolutionary War Battle of Long Island. It was fought on August 27, 1776 and was the first major battle to take place after the United States declared its independence on July 4, 1776. It was a victory for the British Army and the beginning of a successful campaign that gave them control of the strategically important city of New York. In terms of troop deployment and fighting, it was the largest battle of the entire war.

Dr. Leslie Lindenauer, professor of history at Western Connecticut State University, discusses the theme of Patriotism in "My Brother Sam is Dead," with a focus on how we have chosen to remember and represent notions of patriotism and liberty from the Revolutionary War. Dr. Lindenauer, who received her PhD from New York University in 1997, has worked recently on American identity, memory, and popular culture in American History.
