Please join us at the Matthew Curtiss House located in Newtown, CT at 44 Main Street for an open house and wood-turning demonstration on Sunday, April 13 from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.  Mr. Jim Degen of Brookfield will be joining us with his portable lathe to present a wood-turning demonstration.  Wood-turning is a form of woodworking that creates wooden objects on a lathe.  It differs from most other forms of woodworking in that the wood is moving while a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it.

On Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2014 the Newtown Friends of Music will host the American String Quartet.  Internationally recognized as one of the world's foremost quartets, the American String Quartet celebrated its 37th season in 2012/13. Critics and colleagues hold the Quartet in high esteem and many of today's leading artists and composers seek out the Quartet for collaborations. Formed in 1974, when its members were students at The Juilliard School, the ASQ has won both the Coleman and the Naumburg in the same year. One of our most favorite ensembles.

Monday, April 14th at 11am: Story time with Sharon Waagner.  All ages welcome!  Free with museum admission.

Tuesday, April 15th at 11am: Dance Demo: We will be welcoming Ms. B. with her Dance Around the World - First Stop Ballet! Series 1. Ages 3-7 yrs old!   A short story on the ballet Sleeping Beauty will be read. Ballet terminology such as plie’, Releve’, saute’ will be introduced. Creative ballet movement danced along to Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty. Costumes will be princess tu- tu .

Wednesday, April 16th: 1-2pm: Magic Class with Tom O’Brien’s “The Wizard's School of Magic”.  A fun filled, entertaining program presented to students ages 5-8 years of age. In each session, the students will learn how to perform 4 magic tricks from Tom O'Brien, a full-time professional magician from Washington, CT. All of the students will receive their own magic kit containing the props and also receive a Magic Wand during the last class!  Cost is $15/per child which includes class and museum admission. * Must call museum to pre-register for class - there are still a few spots left! *
Thursday, April 17th at 11am: Music Demo with a new, local studio, Noteworthy LLC.  They will be bringing in some percussion instruments for the kids to try, and Mr. Andrew will bring his guitar. There will also be songs! It should be a great time! All ages are welcome and this is a free demo class with museum admission.
