Understanding Medicare--Thursday, October 8, 6:30pm in the Wykeham Room. Licensed Health Insurance Professional Margaret Foran Ackley will deliver an informative presentation on Medicare Health Plan options. This program is designed to teach the basics of Medicare and aid in making informed health care decisions. It will detail different parts of the program, eligibility requirements and enrollment windows. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about coverage options and finding coverage that best meets their health and financial needs. Appropriate for those applying for the first time or for members considering their current coverage. Each attendee will receive a copy of "Medicare Answer Guide."

The 2015 Washington Connecticut Antiques & Design Show will take place Columbus Day weekend, October 9-11, opening with the traditional Preview Night cocktail party on Friday from 6:30 to 9:00pm. The David Poirier Quartet will perform jazz standards during this opportunity for advance buying and browsing from an impressive assortment of exceptional antiques and contemporary décor. Gunn Memorial depends in great part upon private contributions in addition to taxpayer dollars. The Antiques & Design Show funds the town's historical museum, a division of Gunn Memorial Library, Inc. This year's show will feature 18 dealers from the east coast. Visitors will find larger furnishings, works of art, exquisite jewelry, intimate furniture and decorative accessories. Some of the dealers also produce their own lines or make custom furniture.The Antiques & Design Show will be held at Washington Primary School, 11 School Street in Washington Depot. Reservations for the Friday evening party are highly recommended. Entrance to the party begins at $125 per person. Daytime show hours are Saturday, October 10, 10 to 5 and Sunday, October 11, 10 to 4. Daily admission to the show is $10, payable at the door.

The Museum of Fire History, in conjunction with the Bristol Fire Department, has planned a fire safety program for Friday, October 9th from 10:00-1:00. Children of all ages, their families and teachers are welcome to come participate and learn about fire safety through engaging programs and activities. Along with visiting the museum and meeting real firefighters, museum guests will be able to touch a truck, and learn how to escape a burning building via the Hap Barnes Fire Safety Truck.
