The Torrington Veterans Support Committee and its member groups invites the public to join them in its Veterans Day Observance program on November 11, 2013.  The ceremony will be held, rain or shine, at Torrington's Coe Park and will begin at 10:30AM. Wreaths will be placed to honor Veterans.  In case of inclement weather the ceremony will be held inside the Coe Park Civic Center. Public is welcome.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 7-8PM the Oliver Wolcott Library will offer a program in memory of past President Ellen R. Keeney of the Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust presents with the OWLibrary Rachel Carley's lecture The Color of Change. Rachel Carley is an architectural historian, historic preservation consultant and exhibition curator.  Her most recent book, Litchfield: The Making of a New England Town is the recipient of numerous honors.  A wine and cheese reception will follow.  Space is limited.  Registration is required.

Arts Escape, a new non-profit Arts Enrichment Center for people 65 and older, will present "An Afternoon with Walt Whitman: at Woodbury's Curtis House Inn on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2PM.  Stephen Collins will portray Whitman on the eve of his 70th birthday, as he considers his life as a man and a poet.  Cost $18 which includes dessert and coffee.  Seating is limited and reservations are required.  Call the Curtis House.

Litchfield Historical Society - Presents Two Programs on Thanksgiving for Kids

On Thursday, November 14 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, “A Day of Thanks” will explore the historical background of Thanksgiving as a holiday in Connecticut. Participants will listen to stories about how Connecticut citizens used to celebrate the day, and then participate in a play and craft a classic corn husk doll. This program is for children 7 and up, and is $5 for members and $7 for non-members.  On Tuesday, November 19 will feature our Thanksgiving program for preschoolers, ages 3 to 5. After we read our holiday tale, our little pilgrims will participate in a cornucopia of crafts and games geared towards preschoolers. This program will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 am, and is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Registration is required for both of these events.
