Opening Day - Naugatuck Railroad Museum of New England

The historic Naugatuck Railroad will start its scenic round trips on Sunday starting at noon. The 20 mile trip takes about an hour and 15 minutes. Restored vintage 1920's era coaches travel along the banks of the Naugatuck River passing through the Mattatuck Forest and past the old brass mills in the Waterville section of Waterbury, and the Thomaston Dam. All trains depart the 19th century station which is off East Main Street. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $8 for children 3-12 and free for children 1 and under. On Monday, at 9AM, Charles Gold will lead a service at the North Cornwall Cemetery. Bring flowers to decorate the graves. At 10AM, the Seamen's Service will take place at the Covered Bridge. The parade and ceremony begin at the Town Green at 11AM. All are welcome to enjoy the Annual Carnival after the parade and ceremony on the United Church of Christ grounds, sponsored by UCC and the Cornwall Child Center. Consume hamburgers and hot dogs grilled on the spot, fresh salads, beverages and ice cream, and join in games for children of all ages.
