On Friday June 12th at the Barkhamsted Senior Center @ 7pm , Historian , Anne Hall will teach us about the changing styles in architecture in Barkhamsted over time. Anne is widely known to us all through her educational articles that appeared in the New Hartford Independent newspaper weekly.She is also the Town Historian for New Hartford. Come learn about how the houses changed over time and sign up for the follow-up bus tour with Anne that will be held Sat. June 20th @ 10am. There will be a sign up sheet at her talk on the 12th with a nominal fee for the tour of $12. Flanders Nature Center Hosts Field & Forest 5K Trail RunWoodbury

Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust has announced plans for its first annual "Field & Forest" 5 K trail run! It is being held on Friday evening, June 12th at the Flanders Van Vleck sanctuary in Woodbury at 6PM. All ages and skill levels of runners, joggers and walkers are welcome to register to enjoy this 3.1 mile run/walk through the trails and rolling hills of the picturesque nature center. After the race participants will enjoy a post race celebration with food trucks and live music provided by the popular local rock band, "Root Six". The registration fee of $30 includes the run or walk, two food truck items and for those over age 21, a complimentary craft beer. Additional food and drinks will also be available for purchase by spectators and participants. The first 200 race registrants will receive a performance race t-shirt. Awards will be given to top male and female finishers overall as well as in 8 age categories ranging from age under 10 to over 60.

Saturday, June 13 9:30am - 12pm. . Glenn Sherratt, director of the Dorr Nature Laboratory will lead a walking tour of the campus as part of the 11th Annual CT Open House Day. The Dorr Nature Laboratory, which is located on Horace Mann School's 287-acre environmental campus in Washington, CT, is an LEED Gold, energy-conserving facility serving students from New York City and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Meet at the Gunn Museum, at 5 Wykeham Road, at 9:30am for a guided tour of the exhibit "Between Two Worlds: The Photography of Nell Dorr". At 10am a bus will bring participants from the Gunn Museum to the John Dorr Nature Laboratory for a one hour walking tour of their campus buildings and grounds. Participants will learn about the history of the Dorr Nature Laboratory and the diverse activities that take place there. The bus will bring participants back to the Gunn Museum by 12pm.   Registration is required to attend this free program as seating is limited to 14 people.
