Explore Cornwall CT -- a two day event to discover the many aspects of this beautiful town will take place on October 10 and 11, 2015.  On the 10th October from 12 to 3PM a job fair, school tour and real estate information will be available at the Cornwall Consolidated School.  On October 11, 2015  FROM 11 TO 5PM a Tent sale, Farmer's Market and Turtle Derby will be held at Cornwall Bridge.  Many activities are planned to show the towns many attractions.

Scoville Memorial Library Program: Author Pari Forood Iran, Immigration, True Life Tales and Persian Food--Salisbury

On Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 5PM the Scoville Memorial Library presents Pari Forood, a local author of Iranian descent talking about her true-life novel "Gates of Light", recounting her days working for the Ranking Minority Member of the House Judiciary Committee in the 1980's on immigration legislation, and the more harrowing story of helping her cousin escape from Iran. Today Iran is no less in the news and Forood will lead a discussion about these topics from her book plus a short reading. Forood is the Executive Director of the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, and ormer Press Secretary to Congressman Hamilton Fish, Jr. She was the Campaign Manager for various NYS political campaigns, and Women's Issues Coordinator for U.S. Senate candidate Rick Lazio. As part of her introduction to Persian culture she will offer delectable samples of Persian inspired food and treats from Serevan Restaurant. Fee and open to the public.

Torrington istorical Society Program: Mask-making Workshop for Children

On Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 1 to 3 p.m., Tom Hooker Hanford will present a mask-making workshop at the Torrington Historical Society, 192 Main Street, Torrington. Workshop participants will create masks that they may use in Mr. Hanford's performance at the Society on Saturday, October 17th, in conjunction with Torrington's 275th Anniversary Celebration. The workshop, which is limited to twenty participants, is free and open to children ages three and older; children must be accompanied by an adult. To register for the October 10th workshop, please call the Society. The theme of the mask-making workshop on October 10th is based on the song "Frog, He Would a Wooing Go", which is part of Mr. Hanford's program "In the Good Old Colony Days".
