On Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 3-5PM the Kent Memorial Library will host an opening reception for an Origami Group Exhibit: Off The Wall.  Paper folders from six to 86 join together in creative fun to produce a new show that is more than cranes and octahedrons.  Come see the floating sudoku puzzle boxes, origami gardens, an origami zoo and more drifting above the books in the library.  Origamists have been folding and creating together for several years in the library and share their favorite works with enthusiasm.  Refreshments will be served.  Please register.

1st Annual Zombie Crawl and the 2nd Annual Brazen Betties Street Fair for the Love of Art - Torrington

On Saturday all participants should arrive in their best zombie costume at Artwell Gallery.  Festivities kick-off 4 p.m. and will include on-site zombie makeovers, and, of course, the huge zombie walk through the "Dead Center" of Torrington.  Zombies will leave the Artwell Gallery at 5 p.m. and invade the unsuspecting streets of Torrington.  While downtown, the zombies will pillage, plunder and try to abduct Mayor Ryan Bingham, and take over the 2nd Annual Brazen Betties Birthday Street Fair! for the love of art! The Brazen Betties will take place in a closed block of Main Stret and feature music provided by DJ E-Bomb, a fashion show, CT Roller Girls, hula-hoop contest, a handful classic cars, dozens of vendors, live music and food.  The rain date is Sunday, May 22nd from 1 -5 p.m.  Activities will be topped off tht evvening by special screening of a beloved zombie movie at Artwell Gallery.  Awards will be bestowed to the zombie who gets the most sponsors, the zombie who has the best costume, and the zombie who displays the best zombie "Spirit".   This is a fund raiser and all proceeds go  to scholarships for local children in Artwell's Summer Education Program.
