For Immediate Release

It isn't unusual to find network TV crews filming at the Yankee Invention Exposition, slated this year for October 9 to 11 at the Waterbury Armory in Waterbury, CT. Now in its 14th year, this annual homage to ingenuity in the Litchfield Hills often makes news, unveiling bright new ideas of all kinds, from solar cells to spider catchers, an electronic golf club to a new kind of knitting needle.

Open to the public at no charge, the Exposition is a display of creative minds at work. Part of the fun is guessing which entries might become the next "hot" product. Will it be the couch that converts to a home gym or portable cover blinds for glass doors? The exhibitors and their inventions are often featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The Exposition started as a project of the Waterbury Region Convention and Visitors Bureau. The idea was to help regain the reputation for pioneering ideas that once was the hallmark of the city known for its many factories. The event was successful from the start, and in 1997 the volunteer organizers incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. The Exposition and the Yankee Entrepreneur Workshops that are an important part of the program provide a rare opportunity for people with ideas and new products. They are a source of information and marketing resources for inventors, and a magnet for businesses and scouts looking for new products. Exhibitors have come from across the United States and as far away as China, Hungary and Bosnia.

The armory is located on Field Street in Waterbury. Exhibits will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 10 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 11. For information see www.yankeeinventionexpo.org or phone 203-575-8322.
