If the winter doldrums have set in, a welcome cure is in sight. Whether you want to get out on the ski slopes or retreat to a fireside, the inns and resorts of Connecticut's Litchfield Hills are offering a host of special packages for winter getaways. All rates are for two.

At the Litchfield Inn in Litchfield (860-567-4503), where the package includes continental breakfast, rates are $120 for a junior deluxe room with one queen and one pull-out bed, $128 for a deluxe room with two queens, one pull-out and a refrigerator and microwave. Children under 16 are free in a room with adults.

Lakeville's Interlaken Inn (800-222-2909) offers lodging and a bonus lift ticket for $119 per night. Families can add an adjoining double-queen room (4 beds total) for $99 and get an additional two tickets for the price of one. Or they may opt for the family package for two adults and two children that includes skiing, a room with two queen beds, breakfast for four, two adult dinners for the price of one and two-for-one dinners from the Young Gourmet menu, a video rental or the featured movie of the day at the Interlaken Video Theater. The $249 rate includes one free lift ticket at Mohawk.

Other inns offering two-tickets-for-one at Mohawk with a night's stay include the Cornwall Inn in Cornwall, (800-786-6884), Fife n Drum in Kent (860-927-3509), Toll Gate Inn in Litchfield (866) 567-1233 and Wake Robin Inn in Lakeville (860) 435-2000.

Ski Areas Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, a family-friendly mountain with 24 trails, has teamed with Litchfield Hills lodgings to help beat the high cost of skiing. Ski and Stay packages at participating inns offer two lift tickets for the price of one for each night's stay.

Mohawk's Bed and Breakfast Ski Escape package for a Saturday night stay starting at $299 includes breakfast, lift, rentals and lessons and dinner for two at Pine Lodge, the slope side restaurant. It is available at the Huckleberry Inn in Warren, (860-868-1947), Interlaken Inn's Sunnyside House (800-222-2909), Locust Tree Bed and Breakfast in Canaan (860-824-7163), Marigold Gardens Bed and Breakfast in New Preston (860-868-0462), and two Kent bed and breakfast inns, Starbuck Inn (860-927-1788) and The Inn at Kent Falls (860-927-3197).

When romance is on your mind, The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Southbury (203 598-7600) offers deluxe accommodations with cozy robes, two complimentary cocktails, and a country breakfast buffet starting at $119.

At the historic Old Riverton Inn in Riverton (800-EST-1796), overnight accommodations, a dinner by candlelight, flowers, candy, and a full breakfast is $195-$215.

The Inn at Kent Falls, (860-927-3197), offers a Timeless Romance package with two nights lodging, a complimentary bottle of wine in an area restaurant, a champagne brunch for two plus a flower bouquet and handmade chocolate-dipped strawberries, starting at $310.

Toll Gate Hill Inn in Litchfield (866-567-1233) beckons throughout the month of February with a suite with canopy bed and wood burning fireplace, a chilled bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates, continental breakfast plus a $50.00 gift certificate to use on Friday in the inn's historic restaurant for $400 per night weekdays, $500 on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Pamper Yourself package at Mountain View Inn in Norfolk (860-542-6991) offers breakfast in bed and two one-hour massages in your room for $220 per couple, plus the cost of the room.

Grab your best girlfriends and escape to the Hillside Studio Bed and Breakfast in New Preston (860-868-6607), overlooking Lake Waramaug, and a private hideaway with two bedrooms, TV, VCR, phone, microwave, coffeemaker and refrigerator. Package includes dinner at an area inn, in-house one hour massages and manicures for three to five women, $150 per person.

Several other inns offer their best rates of the year in the winter. The Village Gateway Bed and Breakfast in Riverton, (860-738-3900) promises a three-course candlelight breakfast, afternoon tea, evening treats and rose petals on your pillows plus chocolate covered strawberries at turndown, from $135 to $149 per night. At Wake Robin Inn in Lakeville, (860-435-2000), rooms start at $129 for two, including continental breakfast during the week and a full breakfast on weekends. Courtyard by Marriott in Danbury (203-730-2228) offers a room in the contemporary hotel and a bountiful breakfast, from $114-$124.
